This project deals with the new generation of electronic embeded systems. It covers either the technological aspects or the use of all these new elements in applications and products related to future needs for the spacial and aeronautic industry. Our participation in this project concerns the radiation hardening.
Cosmic radiations can cause temporary failures, called "sigle event upsets" (SEU) in computers. The observable effect is that anytime any instruction can crash or perform any unwanted action, but without damage to the computer. This effect is currently very important for satellites and space vehicles in and above the Van Allen belts, It is less frequent in airplanes and still rare on the ground. However, with the reduction in size of electronic components, the sensibility of computers at ground level is increasing. Our approach is to structure the software in a way to make it able to perform its mission even if SEU occur.
